In April 2002 Faith Lutheran Church celebrated 100 years of ministry in Junction City. Our congregation has Danish roots. A.C. Nielsen, a Dane and developer who lived in Minnesota and Wisconsin, prayed about a Danish settlement in Oregon. When Mr. Nielsen came to survey Junction City he saw the fertile and rich soil of the area and he knew this was the place.
One of the first priorities for Mr. Nielsen was to establish a Lutheran Church where Danes could worship God and express the faith that was so deeply imbedded in the Danish culture. Soon after Nielsen arrived in 1902 a Danish Church was established. Faith began on April 23, 1902. The beginning of our Church was an expression of faith by the first Danes. The faith they handed down to us from generation to generation has sustained this community.Today our congregation has become a diverse community bound by the same faith in our Lord Jesus as the first Danes. Now our roots are not only from countries like Denmark and Norway, but from Ethiopia, India, Ecuador, South Africa, and Japan. Faith is a reflection of the rich diversity of our world and the growing diversity of our community. We are becoming a place where young and old worship shoulder to shoulder, and hand to hand. We seek to be a place of welcome and a place of God’s peace. We strive to be a place where questions are always welcome and people are always honored. We want to follow Christ in the way of humble service and love. The same faith that has sustained us for the past 103 years will carry us forth into the next century. God will guide us as we move boldly into the future trusting the good news of Jesus and God’s love for all people. We invite you to come and join us.
